Wesley McCall Nida, 65, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away on October 9th, 2022, at home surrounded by his good friends and family after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Wes was born on February 3rd, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio to Dr. Braden and Nancy Nida. Wes graduated from Marietta High School in 1975 where he met some of his closest friends and was a standout on the football field. As was often heard from the ‘Voice of the Tigers’ on WMOA, “As a player who was known for not being very big, he was the most formidable guy on the football field in the 1970’s. The best pound-for-pound player to ever wear the orange and black … was Wes Nida.”
Wes went on to graduate from The Ohio State University in 1984 with his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. He met and married the love of his life, Theresa, and the two of them moved back to Marietta Ohio.
Wes began his dental practice with his dad in 1984 and shortly thereafter built his own office where he continued to serve many patients, family, and friends for over 34 years.
Wes loved his profession and in 2018 retired with the hope of having more time to do the things he really enjoyed like fishing, gardening, traveling, cheering on his Buckeyes, and honing his golfing short game to mirror that of legends. He was the guy you wanted in a scramble, not just because he kept you laughing, but because he could single-handedly carry the best chipping/putting score.
Wes lived life to the fullest. He collected and kept countless friends from every phase of life including childhood, college, dental school, his professional life, and his retirement. Those who were lucky enough to call him friend also call him family. In Wes, these friends benefited from his unique combination of fierce loyalty and sound sensibility to his orneriness and playful pranks. He will be impossible to forget.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Theresa (Kronauge) Nida; his siblings Mary Ann Swartz (Denny), Caroline Fouss (Dan), Susan Rice (Fred), and Kathy Callahan (Rick); his French bulldog Bebe; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Braden and Nancy (Wilson) Nida and brother Braden E. Nida.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Wesley and Theresa Nida Charitable Fund at The Marietta Community Foundation, The Boys and Girls Club, or the Marietta Country Club Legacy Fund.
A private “Celebration of Life Service” will be held at the discretion of the family at a later date and as Wes would say “You need to play as hard as you work.” Online condolences may be made at www.hadleyfh.com.
