Stir for OBC quota in post-grad med, dental seats gains steam

Leaders of the Bhandari samaj and other communities in Goa’s OBC list met on Sunday and resolved to galvanise the stir in support of the demand to ensure reservation quota for admissions to post-graduate courses in medicine and dentistry at the Goa Medical College and Hospital and Goa Dental College and Hospital.

Congress leader, Girish Chodankar, AAP leader Prof. Ramrao Wagh and several other prominent OBC leaders attended the meeting held under the chairmanship of Bhandari Samaj president Ashok Naik.

The meeting decided to call for a conclave at Azad Maidan in Panaji on November 6 where the future course of action will be decided, Wagh told the media.

Wagh said, there were representatives of the other OBC communities and also the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribe communities who attended the meeting.

Leaders of some other communities included in the State OBC list could not reach but they too will be taken on board before the November 6 meeting is held at the Azad Maidan, he added.

Admissions to post-graduate courses at the GMCH and GDCH are currently in progress. While half the seats are allotted for all-India candidates, the other half are allotted to candidates from the State.

Wagh said, while the OBC quota rule is applied for the all-India seats, it is not implemented for the State quota list which is illegal and an injustice.
