THE VILLAGES, Fla. — Stephen Michael Dobozy, 78, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, at The Villages, Fla., after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Stephen was born on July 15, 1944, in Youngstown, to Steve Jr. and Lucy De Genova Dobozy.
After graduating from Struthers High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Army as a dental laboratory technician, serving in Texas, Washington D.C., and Geissen, Germany. After the Army, he started the Youngstown Dental Lab and built a successful career working for dentists across the Mahoning Valley.
He enjoyed traveling out west, camping, and hiking, but most of all, he enjoyed riding his bike. He was proud of averaging 4,000 miles for 10 years, logging more than 50,000 miles, and riding up to the end.
His first marriage to Jonnette (Headley) Dobozy, and final caregiver, bore his three children, Christopher (Liesl), Stephanie Anne and Darren (Caitlin). “Grandpa” adored his grandchildren, Cheyanne (Mac), Carson, Mikayla, Ryne, Dalton and Emmalisa. He is survived by his sister, Sheila Lewis (the late Geoffrey); younger brother, Patrick (Debbie); and second wife, Cheryl Summers.
He was predeceased by his parents and is probably sitting down to a bowl of Lucy’s famous wedding soup tonight.
The family would like to thank Cornerstone Hospice for their wonderful and generous care and the staff at the Sarasota VA hospital. Stephen will be interred in the Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation in Stephen’s name be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
“Dad, thanks for your love and guidance; til we meet again!”
