SPS update: Apptegy App, school lunches, Park Avenue dental clinic, Meekins PTO meeting, and more

The 2022-23 school year started last week, but students and school staff are already busy with athletics, meetings, and preparation.  Nikki Hawkins, Director of Communications and Student Services at Stuttgart Public Schools, provided an update on district happenings.

Park Avenue Elementary School

Park Avenue Elementary School is holding a dental clinic to help provide healthcare access to students on Monday, Aug. 29.

“Parents, the students should have already brought home some information concerning that. If they have not, check those backpacks,” Hawkins said.

To contact Park Avenue with any questions about the upcoming clinic, call 870-673-3563.

Also on Monday, Park Avenue students will receive details about the upcoming cookie dough fundraiser.

“It is that time of the year again. Please be on the lookout for that information as well,” Hawkins said.

Additionally, school leaders are asking Park Avenue parents to go on the school’s Facebook page to sign up to be a mystery reader in September.

Meekins Middle School

Meekins Middle School will have its first PTO meeting on Monday, Aug. 29. The meeting will be held in the school’s cafeteria, beginning at 5:15 p.m.

Also, Meekins students will participate in the One Book, One School program next week. The program engages students, their families, and community members in reading the same book, at the same time.

Apptegy App

The Stuttgart School District is now using an app to disseminate information. The Apptegy App will help district parents learn pertinent news in a timelier manner.

“Downloading that is just a perfect way to get the most up-to-date information and to get it quickly,” Hawkins said.

More information about the Apptegy App is available on the Stuttgart School District website.

School lunches

Beginning Monday, Aug. 29, school lunch will be $3 at Stuttgart Junior High School and at Stuttgart High School. Students at all Stuttgart schools can fill out an online application to see if they qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch.

“Please go to the Stuttgart School District website under the news section and fill out the lunch application,” Hawkins said. “There are all kinds of benefits that come along with filling out that packet.”

Athletics

Tonight, Stuttgart’s seventh grade and junior high football teams will travel to Warren to take on the Lumberjacks. Also, Stuttgart’s tennis team will meet at 4 p.m. to take on the England Lions.

“That is a wonderful opportunity to support the Ricebirds on the road and here at home as well,” Hawkins said.

Tomorrow night, the Warren Lumberjacks will travel to Stuttgart for a contested matchup. The game will start at 7 p.m. at Ned Moseley Stadium.

“Come on out and support those Ricebirds. We need all the faces in the place,” Hawkins said.
