After sitting vacant for nearly a year and a half, the My Community Dental Center on Care Drive in Hillsdale is close to reopening for service.
The center closed in April 2021 when the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Health Center was unable to find a dentist to fill an open position, according to Health Officer Rebecca Burns.
The BHSJ has entered into a contract with a new dentist now who will reopen the office, said Hillsdale County Commissioner Brent Leininger.
“They are in the process of hiring staff and getting them trained,” Leininger added. “They don’t know yet when the clinic will open, but we will work to get this information out as soon as we have it.”

Many residents are hopeful the center’s reopening will help to alleviate the backlog of local dentists with many stating it has taken them weeks and sometimes even months to be able to get a dental appointment in Hillsdale County.
My Community Dental Center is a statewide program with 34 locations throughout Michigan and aims to serve clients with all levels of dental insurance and even those uninsured.
Some have traveled as far away as Ann Arbor for dental care due to the appointment availability issues locally.
“It’s been frustrating for sure,” said Kent Jacoby who recently moved to the county with his wife and three teenagers.
