The Children’s Dentist, which has been making kids smile for 24 years, is changing names, with a familiar face carrying the dental practice into the future.
Under the new name Love That Smile, they will offer the same great care from the same great staff, and they have expanded to serve patients of all ages.
“We really do have the best patients, and they have become our dental family,” said Dr. Sarah Deeds.
Over the past nine years, the practice has gradually added general dentistry, allowing those members of the family to continue their care in the same dental practice they grew up with.
“One of the highest compliments we have is seeing patients grow up and bring their children back with them,” Dr. Deeds said.
Dr. Mike retiring
The Children’s Dentist, a family-owned company, was opened in 1998 by Dr. Michael “Dr. Mike” Weaver and Dr. Lary Deeds, both retired military.
It was one of the first pediatric dental practices in Clarksville, and the community soon realized the positive impact.
Dr. Lary Deeds retired over a year ago, and now Dr. Mike is retiring as well. The new name was Dr. Mike’s choice, and it’s a tribute to his retirement.
The singing dentist
Leading the team at Love That Smile will be Dr. Sarah Deeds, who has been in the family for two decades, and has been with the practice for over 10 years, as owner for over four years.
Dr. Deeds started working at the practice when she was only 18 years old. She went to dental school in Florida, then she returned to Clarksville and started back at The Children’s Dentist in 2013 as a general dentist. She’s been there ever since.
Known as “the singing dentist,” she hums to patients as she works. This distraction can sometimes be helpful in calming nerves and drowning out more unpleasant dental sounds.
She has Boot Thursday, where staff and patients are encouraged to come in wearing their favorite boots.
Dr. Deeds’ favorite quote is, “Make the world a bit better or more beautiful because you have lived in it,” by Edward Bok. One way she does that is by encouraging anyone who is interested in the dental field to come shadow her because “Lary and Mike were huge mentors to me,” she said.
Anyone who has pictures of or stories about Dr. Mike or Dr. Lary, please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org for a tribute.
