Local dentist adopts facial aesthetics | Journal-news

INWOOD – Longtime Berkeley County resident Dr. Kenneth Banks, of Smile Designs of the Shenandoah Valley, has also long had a passion for aesthetics in his dental practice.

An accredited member of the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry for nearly 15 years, he has added facial aesthetics into his dental practice and because the interest was growing quickly, decided it was time to dedicate a space to facial aesthetics — The Haven Spa.

Smile Designs of the Shenandoah Valley recently dedicated a space to facial aesthetics, The Haven Spa, which opened in May of this year in Inwood.

“The name of the spa is special to the family,” said Sarah Langford, Banks’ daughter and co-owner. “My daughter – Dr. Banks’ granddaughter – is named Haven. When we decided to move forward with the addition and thought about all we wanted the spa to entail and feel for our clients, naming it The Haven made perfect sense. We want to be that safe and special place for people to visit, and by definition, Haven fit perfectly.”

Langford explained that the goal of the spa is to create a specific feeling of individual care, while also addressing overall skincare needs.

“We want to make sure our clients know our goal is to listen to their wants and needs and give them realistic expectations of how we can help,” she said.

The Haven Spa opened in May of this year, while Smile Designs of the Shenandoah Valley, Banks’ dental office, has been open since 1987.

The family was all born and raised in Inwood, and it was important to them to continue doing business in the area.

“This community has supported and blessed our dental practice for many years. It is so exciting to see the growth in our county, and we feel like we are in the perfect location for this type of hybrid skincare/medical spa,” Langford added.

With the new location and addition of services at the spa, Banks still works in his dental practice and now devotes part of his time at work to his patients at The Haven.

“We offer a variety of procedures, but we also want to educate our clients on the importance of medical-grade skin care, environmental factors and how they affect your skin and that it not only matters what we do here but also what our clients are doing at home,” she explained. “No one can avoid the aging process, but we strive to make sure that we can help you do it gracefully and feel confident in the skin you’re in!”

Langford is a dental hygienist and also graduated from esthetician school. The team at the business includes Banks, Langford, two additional nurse practitioners, Tammy Hamilton and Jessi Burkhart-Williams, and another licensed esthetician, Meredith Denton.

“We have seen firsthand when someone does a smile makeover, how it changes so much more than just their smile. Do they smile more after? Certainly, but we also see how it boosts their confidence and self-esteem. We want the same for our clients at the spa. When you are comfortable in your own skin, you are more confident. Every individual is unique and their concerns with their own skin are different. Our goal is to meet our clients where they are and provide them with an excellent experience,” Langford said. “We understand that time is valuable but so is everyone that walks through our doors. It is so important to take the time to invest in yourself. It truly does make all the difference.”

The Haven Spa offers medical-grade skin care, in-office peels, dermaplaning treatments, traditional facials and hydrafacials.

Langford explained that injectables include neurotoxins such as botox and dermal fillers.

“Our menu of services also includes laser hair removal, IPL skin treatments and In-Mode procedures. In-Mode treatments include Morpheus, Forma, Evolve and Evoke. These non-invasive procedures all use radio frequency to help tighten and remodel skin on the face and body. We are excited to also be adding an in-office whitening procedure to our menu at The Haven,” Langford said.

The Haven Spa also has a small boutique with small gifts.

“Our goal is to sell as many products as we can that have a purpose behind the brand. We are big believers in a give-back, and we hope to carry that through even in our retail area,” she said.
