Lankan Dentist appointed as President of Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry

Making Sri Lanka proud, Rotarian Dr. V. Vijayakumaran was installed as the 17th President of the Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry. In a historic event the Sri Lankan was appointed in the South Korean capital in the presence of an eminent gathering of aesthetic dentists.

This is the first time a Sri Lankan aesthetic dentist has been honoured with this prestigious position to serve the 35 Asian countries, to upgrade the knowledge and clinical skills in the field of aesthetic dentistry. During his two years in office he will develop a collaborative programme among the Asian countries in advanced aesthetic dentistry.

Dr. Vijaykumaran holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Peradeniya (1984) and he joined the division of Pediatric Dentistry as the junior academic staff at the Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya in 1985.

He did his Master’s degree in the same university in 1990 and became a senior academic staff in the faculty. He also received advanced training in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia through a World Health Organization fellowship. He worked as the senior consultant of the Pediatric Dentistry division of the Peradeniya University Dental Hospital and the faculty of Dental Sciences.

He retired from service in 2021 and currently teaches final year dental undergraduates at the comprehensive care unit as visiting consultant. He was the senate member of the University of Peradeniya and adviser to several educational institutions. He is actively involved in continuing dental education programmes abroad and locally.
