IONIA — Ionia native Sarah (Swartz) Bouwkamp graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry on May 6, and will join Ionia Family Dentistry where she will practice with her father, Lowell Swartz.
“Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to practice dentistry and being able to do so with my father and in the community where I was raised is especially meaningful,” Bouwkamp said. “It literally is a dream come true.”
Prior to dental school, Bouwkamp earned a degree in biochemistry-molecular biology from Hope College in 2018. She was valedictorian of the Ionia High School Class of 2014.
Bouwkamp earned several honors at the University of Michigan, including Fourth Year Dental Student of the Year and the Student Excellence in Predoctoral Education award.
She recently relocated to the area with her husband, Rilee. As a general dentist, Bouwkamp will provide a variety of services and anticipates scheduling patients beginning June 6.
She is the daughter of Lowell and Judy Swartz and has one sibling, Sabrina (Swartz) Rodriquez, who is in her third year at the University of Marquette School of Dentistry.
“It is so great to be back in Ionia,” Bouwkamp added. “I look forward to serving the dental needs in our community for years to come.”
Lowell Swartz has practiced dentistry in Ionia for more than 30 years. Ionia Family Dentistry is located at 430 Swartz Court in Ionia.
