NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Officials are having to resort to using dental records and fingerprints in order to identify a man who was fatally struck by a construction truck then robbed in Manhattan last week, police sources told The New York Post on Sunday.
Police said the victim, believed to be in his 50s, was crossing the street at Eighth Avenue and West 44th Street in Midtown at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday when he was hit.
Authorities launched an investigation after a video was shared showing the victim being pickpocketed following the incident.
“We’ve already lifted prints, and waiting on dental,” one police source told the Post. “Thankfully they didn’t steal his teeth too.”
The thief was seen on video taking the victim’s wallet while some onlookers cheered the suspect on.
“They took his ID so we can’t ID him,” an NYPD source told the Post. “He’s a John Doe right now.”
