Carlson Dental Bantams hockey posts two wins | News, Sports, Jobs



FAIRMONT — The Carlson Dental Bantams hockey team posted a pair of wins last weekend on the heels of opening the month earlier at the Prairie Centre I-94 Challenge in Sauk Centre.

Preston Cepress, Jase Meade and Dayton Draper each netted two goals and one assist to power the Fairmont-based team to a 6-4 victory over host Redwood Falls last Saturday.

Hunter Thate, Gavin Kester and Klay Beemer each distributed one assist for Carlson Dental, while netminder Brandon Hector made 23 saves to claim the win.

Kester then generated a hat trick and Draper collected two goals and two helpers to steer Fairmont to a 7-4 triumph over the Boji Blizzards last Sunday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Noah Meixell contributed one goal and two assists to the win, Axel Chapman scored a goal, while Meade and Cepress doled out one assist each.

Goaltender Kaden Olson made 30 stops for Fairmont, which unleashed 44 shots on goal.

The Challenge

The Carlson Dental Bantams compiled a 2-2 record to place fifth at the Prairie Centre I-94 Challenge tournament Dec. 2-4 in Sauk Centre.

Lakeville iced Fairmont 14-1 during opening-round action Dec. 2. Kester scored the lone goal off a Cepress pass, while Hector tallied 35 saves between the pipes.

Fairmont rebounded to post a 9-1 second-round win over Fargo on Dec. 3.

Kester erupted for a game-best six-point performance on the strength of three goals and three assists, while Cepress netted one goal and dished out a game-high four helpers.

Meixell tallied two goals and one assist, Bryce Roeschen produced his first goal, while Macklain Anderson and Meade chipped in one goal apiece.

Beemer doled out two helpers, while Caleb Meyer, Noah Bettin and Hunter Olson added one assist each.

Kaden Olson recorded 18 stops to earn the win for Carlson Dental, which had 38 shots on goal.

Host Prairie Centre shut out Fairmont, 11-0, during third-round play on Dec. 3. Hector tallied 30 saves, while Kaden Olson added eight stops.

Kester drilled four goals and dished out one assist to help Fairmont outscore Worthington 8-6 in the fifth-place game on Dec. 4.

Beemer contributed two goals and one helper to Carlson Dental’s win, while Meixell suppplied one goal and two assists.

Anderson added one goal, while Meyer, Hunter Olson and Cepress doled out one assist each. Kaden Olson turned away 27 shots for Fairmont, which made 34 shots on goal.

The Carlson Dental Bantams (6-7) travel to Worthington for a 10 a.m. game Saturday before hitting the road to Okoboji for a 1:45 p.m. contest at 1:45 p.m.

The Fairmont 12U girls hockey team pocketed a split during weekend ice action.

Lexi Haycraft generated two goals to top Fairmont’s 3-1 victory over New Ulm/Sleepy Eye last Saturday.

Lauren Bettin contributed one goal and one assist to the winning effort, while Kynlee Beemer, Halyn Haycraft and Kennedy Murphy added one assist apiece.

Goalie Alexis Sundeen made 14 saves to earn the win for Fairmont.

Dodge County edged Fairmont in a defensive battle, 1-0, last Sunday.

Sundeen tallied 10 saves for Fairmont, which made 26 shots on net.

Fairmont 12U plays host to West St. Paul at 5 p.m. Friday to kick off a three-day tournament at Martin County Arena in Fairmont. Fairmont faces Woodbury at 10 a.m. Saturday before returning to the arena Sunday against an opponent to be determined.

New Ulm/Sleepy Eye defeated Fairmont, 7-3, during PeeWee ‘B’ hockey action last Saturday.

Tyler Pankow netted one goal and one assist for Fairmont, Kane Wohlhuter and Preston Geerdes each contributed one goal, while Blake Thompson added an assist.

Netminder Kolton Hinz recorded 25 saves for Fairmont, which travels to Richmond on Saturday and Sunday for action in the River Lakes tournament.
