Spam War, Part 87

spam

The war against Spam on Goofyblog is a never-ending nightmare.

Some of you might remember the hundreds comment spams I was getting every day about a year ago. The good news was that I was able to install a program (Askimet) that auto-deleted 99% of the spam, and on occasion, a few would trickle in here and there.

Well, the spamtards are getting more sophisticated,  while the askimet program still auto deletes thousands of spam comments a week,  more and more have been getting through in the past couple of months.   It’s now at the point where I have to log on multiple times per day, and delete dozens of spam comments.

To help combat this, I’m afraid I need to implement registration on Goofyblog.

It’s no big deal, it just means that before you can comment, you’ll need to register on the blog, which means nothing more than creating a username and password.   Once you do that, you’ll be able to comment.

I’ve been resisting doing this,  while you regulars I’m sure will have no problem registering (it takes all of 2 minutes to accomplish), I didn’t want to dissuade the casual visitor to goofyblog from posting.

Unfortunately I have no choice,  at least this requires the spambots to register as well, which then allows me to delete their accounts and every single email those accounts have written in one fell swoop.
