San Francisco Olympic Torch Protest

I work in downtown San Francisco, just a block from the Embarcadero and the San Francisco Bay.

Today the Olympic torch was supposed to follow a route right on the Embarcadero, from the Giants ballpark to the ferry building and beyond.   That didn’t happy, due to city officials changing the route at the last minute, but there were still tens of thousands of Pro Chinese, and Pro Tibetan protesters down there, the following are a few pictures I took.

Sorry about the bad quality, these were all taken with my crappy cell phone camera.

People congregating around Spear / Embaradero, mostly Pro Tibet people at this point.

Uh oh, here comes the Pro Chinese contingent

The resulting clash, and yelling match.  I didn’t see anyone get hurt, but it was loud and quite angry, from both sides.

The pro Tibet side made a pretty cool looking mini chinese tank,  hmmm art car project for Burning Man?

A San Francisco protest wouldn’t be complete without local icon, Mr. 12 Galaxies guy himself,  Frank Chu!
