News: Reuters Opens News Bureau in Second Life

A real reporter in a virtual world Second Life gamers can read ‘news’ of online goings-on
Second Life is an online community that has its own monetary system, tattoo parlors and wedding planners — and now the role-playing game that runs out of San Francisco has a full-time beat reporter from the Reuters international news agency.
Adam Pasick, a.k.a. Adam Reuters, has been wearing out digital shoe leather in the virtual world for a couple of months now, and recently started posting stories at www.Secondlife.reuters.com. His dispatches often bridge the flesh-and-blood world and the pixelated one, including an article yesterday that covered an investigation by the real U.S. Congress to investigate the possibility of taxing virtual assets.
If it all sounds like the third sequel to “The Matrix,” count Pasick among the crowd who was initially taken aback by the prospect of augmenting his laminated press pass with the cartoonish one his character wears in Second Life.
