More too-little-too-late politicial postering by the clueless leadership in the White House.  Bush wants to have the personal authority to raise fuel-efficiency standards on cars.   WOW… Thankyou for saving the country moron.   As if thats going to change anything in the next 5 years.  I guess I can relax now knowing you’re on top of the situation,  I’ll take my $100 rebate check and go throw a party for my friends at some Benigans or T.G.I.F in some crappy American suburb somewhere, because everythings going to be all right.

Just more nonsense in a futile attempt to run from the science.  We’re at Peak Oil, and very few people, and almost no one in Washington accepts or understands that fact.

Rising gas prices spur action from both sides in Congress

WASHINGTON (CNN) — President Bush on Thursday said he wants to raise fuel-efficiency standards on automobiles, as members of both parties jockeyed for political position on the issue of rising gas prices.

Bush called on Congress to give him the authority to set the standards for passenger cars sold in the United States as a means of reducing the nation’s demand for gasoline.

“I encourage them to give me that authority,” Bush told reporters during a visit to a service station in Biloxi, Mississippi. “It’s an authority I used for light trucks, and I intend to use it wisely if Congress will give me that authority.”
