Cool Stuff: Hydrogen Powered Motorcycle
I came across this cool Motorcycle From Intellegent Energy, the ENV Motorbike runs completley off Hydrogen.
Their Custom Fuel Cells power 1k-watt of energy to an electric motor. The top speed is only 50 MPH, which I suppose is fine as a city street bike. The range is about 100 miles on a single tank of hydrogen, which can be refilled in 5 minutes, although its not to clear to me how you would re-fill that tank, last time I checked gas stations didn’t offer hydrogen refills. Another odd thing about this bike; its completley silent, apparently that’s a safety issue as you can be flying down the road and no one would hear you, although I kinda like that stealthy quality. It’s an interesting idea, they hope to have it in production by the summer of 2007.
I suppose it could be a big seller if they find some way to distibute the hydrogren refills economically to the bike owners, I’m not convinced Fuel Cells have a future, they are a neat technology, but they are NOT a power source, they are a power carrying mechanism. You still need to create the hydrogen somehow, and in the end, Its going to involve fossil fuels to some degree to create it. And one final question I have about this bike… How do you prevent it from going Hindenburg on you if you get into an accident?

the hindenburg went up in flames so quickly due to the coating on the outer skin of the ship not really because of the hydrogen so dont worry bout that
