Aaron: right on! I sat that one out and glad I did. Stay tuned for 2008. It should roll a lot differently.

That sounds horrible. No, I don't think it's as bad elsewhere, at least from my limited experience. Every sevral months I visit a building that's right across the street from the Sears Tower. Before 9/11, if I remember correctly, all I had to do was sign my name on a clipboard (as well as look white, of course). And the change or addition after 9/11? Show an ID. That's it. Big whoop, huh? Well, I guess I still probably had to be a white guy - Else the black people at the front desk might eye me more suspiciously, I suspect. Anyhow, so, it's pretty comfortable. I'm not sure I would want to live in the world you describe.
.
Regarding the 2004 convention, all I did was sit on my butt. But while this was going on, and even more in hindsight, I was surprised that there was less conflict - i.e. that the people of New York didn't shut that shit down. While the protestors were sequestered in their "free-speech zones", the maggots inside were frothing with hate and sporting their purple heart bandaids. Serisouly, think about what we've seen of the Chicago convention (was it 1972?). If those same people from back then were in New York in 2004 things might have been a lot different. And we might, just might, not be stuck with the criminals (in Washington) still. Just thinking back, godamn, that convention (2004) was a disgusting nightmare, wasn't it? Unbelievable.
