Does Anyone Remember Mr. Hooper?

I stumbled upon this old school Sesame Street episode, and wow, times have changed.

I imagine you could never make this episode now.

Modern kids shows would either protect kids from the whole idea of death (could you imagine Barney playing the roll of Big Bird on this subject matter? yea right), or you would hear a bunch of nonsense about an afterlife, or at a minimum, how Mr. Hooper has “gone to a better place” or some such nonsense.

i.e. coddle the child, and protect him/her from the whole scary idea of mortality.

I remember this episode from when I was a kid, and seeing it now, reminds me of just how much this country has lost its secular/humanistic values….and…well… groovy hairstyles and fashion.

    That’s just spam, above, right?

Anyhow, yea, you’re right. People live in fear these days. It’s pathetic.

Nah it’s not spam, it’s a track-back, someone else with a blog linked to this article, which is pretty cool. But yea, it really shows you how much times have changed. Good ole Mr. Loooper. (sniff) (sniff)

One thing I noticed watching old episodes of Sesame Street in college was how any kids they used in the backround with Downs Syndrome, or other physically appearant Mental retardation issues. Watching that stuff is like doing drugs with out drugs. It’s pretty cool.

Yea I remember that. Come to think of it, I probably first learned about tards and window-lickers from the training I got watching Sesame Streets tards. I was just 5 or 6 years old, and I remember asking my mother “Mommy, why are those kids funny looking?” it was then that she explained to me that not all children are the same, and some are to be rediculed and made fun of.
