I know I'm going to get a lot of shit for this comment probably, but nigga is used differently than niggers in the language. And that's obvious just in the title N.W.A. gave to themselves. Nigga, not nigger. Last night I watched The Intruder, a 1961 film starring William Shatner and directed by Roger Corman. It's just after school desegration in the South and Shatner plays the villian, arriving in a small Southern town with the sole attempt to stir up the whites against the 10 blacks who are going to start attending the all-white school. Shatner gets in a cab and says "take me to Nigger Town." Much of the film was shot using non-actors in the towns in the South during this scary and violent period in our history. The specials feature an interview between Shatner & Corman where they detail the difficulty in shooting the film on locations due to small-town sheriffs and angry white crowds. Shatner won several awards in Europe for his performance, but the film was almost unreleasable in the States. To see raw, unvarnished prejudice spoken directly on film by people who lived at that time and a great performance by Capt. Kirk, check out The Intruder.
