Christian Right Gets Its Way: ‘In God We Trust’ Will Have Prominence on New Coin

Congress has mandated that the phrase “In God We Trust” has greater prominence on the new presidential dollar coins.

Responding to complaints from the Religious Right, Congress has passed legislation mandating that the phrase “In God We Trust” be moved from the edge to the back or front of the new presidential dollar coins.

There are more important things to worry about right?.. right?… RIGHT ?!?
 
We are a nation of morons lead by morons,  I’m convinced if it were not for a few key enlightened individuals being at the right place, at the right time, and some very fortuitous lucky events over the past 220 years,  the USA, as a nation, would have been finished long ago.
 
It’s only a matter of time until Darwin comes knocking on the door, and the bill is going to be huge.

Stotts and other motto boosters fail to note that the phrase did not appear on coins until 1864. The motto was stamped on coinage after a Pennsylvania pastor suggested it to the Mint, arguing that the Civil War was a punishment from God.

So some idiot pastor in 1864, for the first time, convinces the mint to include religion on our money.  

Maybe 1864 was the dividing line between what our founding fathers tried to create, and what it became.  After all, in 1864 the nation was in the midst of the Civil War, another event they had no inkling of that would have huge ramifications for the future.

The phrase was removed from coins briefly during the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt when new coins were designed.

Yea!  You go Teddy!

Its use was not mandated on paper currency until 1957, one year after Congress declared “In God We Trust” the national motto.

Ahh.. good ole Joseph McCarthy and the Cold War.  Can’t let them commies tell us god doesn’t exist.  This is also right about the time the Christofacist, during the cold war, had “Under God” inserted into the pledge.

Don’t tell me Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, and Washington are not turning over in their graves.
