China Claims World’s Largest Ferris Wheel

BEIJING - China is reaching for the stars with the opening of what it says is the world’s tallest Ferris wheel in the country’s south.

The 525 foot high Star of Nanchang opened this week in a riverside park in Jiangxi province, the official Xinhua News Agency said Tuesday.

The wheel is a full 82 feet taller than the London Eye on the banks of the River Thames in London which, according to the Guinness World Records, is the current record holder.

    off topic @ Fran Chatfield. Sadly, Fran, you have not done the image of your country many favours with your statement and, although I understand that you may well be just one of the ignorant masses, contrary to the opinion of the majority of Americans, there is a world beyond your borders and the activities occuring in that world are not actually centred around the favourable opinion of your narrow-minded country (If you think the term “narrow-minded” is a little harsh I suggest you think about your rather inaccurately named “World Series”).

    Ironically, while you think the actions of other countries are designed solely to impress you, your country strives to be the biggest and best at everything so that they may attempt to impress the rest of the world.

    You might need to look up what “irony” is… and it’s nothing to do with metallurgy.

    I hope that the majority of Americans reading your comment wish you’d've kept your big mouth shut.
