US casino boss sets record for Ming porcelain in Hong Kong  

HONG KONG (AFP) - Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn took a punt on Asian art in Hong Kong and in the process set a record for coveted Chinese Ming Dynasty-era porcelain, auctioneers Christie’s said.

Wynn, whose Wynn Resorts, along with Sheldon Adelson’s Sands Las Vegas, is helping to revolutionise gaming in the southern Chinese territory Macau, bid 78.5 million Hong Kong dollars (10 million US dollars) at auction for the early Ming “Yuhuchunping” underglaze copper-red vase.
