Burning Couch

 Minimalist Man

Last weekend my camp mates and I went up to the Great Black Rock Desert for a little Pre-Burning Man celebration.   Well, ok the trip was to organize our storage unit in Empire for this years burn, but then afterwards we took a few couches and dragged them off to the playa and had the entire desert to ourselves.

Burning Couch 2006

It’s not quite Burning Man,  but hey we didn’t have to deal with dust storms or “bo cha bo cha bo cha …The Sytem is down… The System is down… do do do do do” ringing in our ears until dawn.   The weather was perfect, even warmer at night than during Burning Man, we slept under a BILLYION Stars on a warm summer night.

While we were there it occured to us how cool it would be to have a party on the playa around this time next year.  Nothing to do with Burning Man really, just maybe 30-50 of our friends camping out sometime around Solstice of 2007.  Stayed tuned next year for more details on this.

Uhhhh…. ok… I’ll have to remember that for next time Anony-Mouse. The population of the entire bay area goes down by around 25,000 the last week of August, maybe there’s good pickens almost everywhere?

What a waste of time in a world thats in so much trouble.

Jimbo, when has the world not been in trouble? Is it in any less trouble today than it was during the downfall of Rome? Or how about during WWII? Or the Cold War? The World is in trouble now, always has been, and always will be. I would argue that Art, Creativity, Community and Inspiration are the only things that continually help save the world from itself.

The real old-timers (the ones that started going to BM in the early 90s) have been having a pre-BM celebration out on the Playa for years now. Loud Jen told me that about 500 of them go up there around Solstice. But the Playa is large enough for different parties.

Nice come-back, Porter! Well said. Jimbo, if we all waited to enjoy our lives until no child dies of leukemia, no wars are fought, no cancer takes a 25-year-old, no landmines blow off little Afgan legs, the ozone hole closed up, the factories stopped belching crap into the air, and people stopped yelling at each other, we’d all be dead from the Sun going supernova. Get over yourself, mang.

I like the photo of you sitting in the desert with the mountains & clouds behind you. Purty… peaceful.
