Alanis Morissette Got Back?

I love Alanis Morissette, and now she has this awesome parody of yet another idiotic misogynistic hip-hop video. (below)

(The original crap ass video by some morons you won’t remember next year)

Well, first of all this song/video is already well over a year old, and I certainly haven’t forgotten “that hump” and I’m not even a that big fan of rap (or funk, whatever you want to call this). No, I think this song, and some like it, are some of the best music from musicians out there these days. I don’t think this is so much a reflection of their talent as it is the sad state of the industry. There’s not much good new, good, music out there for it to compete with.

So what you’re saying is the best the Music Industry has to offer, circa 2007, is craphole rap songs about chicks shaking their ass to get junk jewelry from their wanna be gangster loser boyfriends.

Well, maybe not “the” best, but I’d have to say yep, some of the best.

I love rap and hip hop, but the Black Eyed Peas have always been at the bottom of my list. I’ve never figured out why and how they became popular even to the point of being featured in television commercial.
I’m glad Alanis parodied them, because they richly deserve it: there’s no there there in their work.

It’s true that rap seems to be fading. Older acts have retired or aren’t doing anything interesting and there haven’t been new acts coming out. I think music is headed into the niche marketing area — groups with smaller numbers of fans that can tour based on internet sales.

As for good rap being made right now, try anything by Cee-Lo, Lupe Fiasco’s new album Food & Liquor or, for my money, the new artist, Busdriver. He has an album out now, Roadkillovercoat, which has the great song, Kill Your Employer (Recreational Paranoia is the Sport of Now), but like I said, he’s a “niche” artist.

P.S., Lily Allen from the UK is great as well. She reminds me of Alanis in the early ’90s.

I’m not sure if it’s the right thing to say but Alanis looks damn good in that video. Personally, the only hiphop I find interesting these days comes out of the UK (Lady Soverign, M.I.A., Dizzee Rascal)

Dunno why, but Lady Sovereign and Dizzee Rascal are too tame for me (sort of like The Streets, if you ever heard him). Have you checked out Lily Allen? She’s to-the-point.
