Afternoon Cup - 12/28/2006

Good Afternoon from Racine Wisconsin.
I have one more day here, and then I head back to San Francisco tomorrow.
Aurora and Aaron both wanted me to give a little information about Kringle, as Racine is the Kringle Capital of the USA.
So what is Kringle? It’s a Danish pastry that this town is famous for. Apparently, Racine Wisconsin has the highest population of Danes outside of Greenland (and Denmark I assume) and they brought this high calorie delicacy with them.
Kringle is sort of like a huge flat donut, filled with jelly goodness and usually covered in some sort of frosting. It probably packs something like 500 calories per square inch, and a lot of local Racinites use Kringle as the fast track to Fat Bastardization.
Elsewhere in the world… a couple of interesting post holiday shopping stories:
I came across this well written piece about what it’s like to work at Walmart, it has a happy revenge ending, I highly recommend this read.
If you happen to shop at Best Buy, don’t use $2.00 bills, or you may end up in leg irons and hand cuffs.

If you follow the Kringle link you will go to wikipedia, there you will find a link to O&H Danish Bakery. Go there. They have the best Kringle in the U.S. and they will overnight it to your home. It’s super good as a holiday treat. Enjoy!
