Bill Clinton

By Restless

Today, the 19th, is the Anniversary of the Impeachment of President Clinton.

As Joseph Palermo says in his article:

“All of the articles of impeachment directly related to Clinton’s consensual sexual relationship with a woman who preferred to keep it private, and who had not accused him of sexual harassment.”

In the weeks leading up to the impeachment and on the day of the impeachment, Newt Gingrich and Speaker of the House-designate Robert Livingston were forced to resign because they were guilty of exactly what Clinton was accused of–consensual, extra-marital sex.

And now?

“Should not the Democrats of the 110th Congress make a reasoned, non-partisan case for impeaching a President who may be responsible for illegally wiretapping American citizens, sanctioning torture and secret prisons, and misleading the nation into a catastrophic war?”

Of course they should! If not now, when? The Republicans brought our entire goverenment to a halt for over a year on this stupid, wasteful impeachment. And now, when there are real reasons, real unlawful, treasonous behavior, a real time when Congress needs to take back their power, the Dems say no?????

As Palermo says in another article, even though there isn’t enough of a Dem majority to finalize the impeachment in the Senate, there’s a real chance that an impeachment trial would produce sufficient scandalous crimes enough to infuriate a substantial number of Republicans to actually swing the vote and get rid of the bastard. Remember, Nixon resigned upon realizing that he would be definitely impeached.

The next 2 years cannot be more of the same! Write Pelosi. This is not a corporatocracy.

    1. anniversry of the impeachment trial- he was not impeached
    2. regardless of whether or not he deserves to be impeached the democratic house and senate have decided that it wouldn’t pass- and wasting a year or two on an impeachment trial would prevent anything else from getting done and you are well aware that there are many corrections that need to be made while we have our current favorable majority-
    3. what got done during the impeachment trial as far as civil government was concerned- name them?

    katiiis:
    1. I said anniverary of the impeachment, meaning the vote of the House on the Articles of Impeachment, which then led to the trial, which did not go through.
    2. I’m not clear: what is your point here? Yes, it was a huge waste of time and distraction for little reason other than an apparent disrespect by the Republicans for our electoral process. Clinton was and still is a popular President. This was an attempt to circumvent his election.
    3. Again, the impeachment circus was a distraction from the business of government, should never have happened, was based on trivial details. Today, with Bush there are certainly crimes committted (signing statements, warrentless wiretapping, etc., etc.), which are ample reason to bring articles of impeachment, whether or not there is a reasonable expectation the Senate will convict, if for no other reason than to bring the Exectutive branch back to the rule of law in this country.
